News Week - 05/20/11

Happy Summer! Though I am on vacation, I've been really busy with projects. I've got a nerd-post today. I somehow completely forgot about blogging about Emerald City Comicon this year, so I'll be doing that...and I went to a videogame symphony. I know, it's really nerdy, but I heard they would play Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy music.

First...Comicon! I went an hour before it closed and that's when my art friends also happened to show up, so it worked out well. Really packed and full of art--so much art, I didn't know where to look.

I bumped into friend and pop artist Ken Taya--behold his rainbow of art:

Also, graduated from same school, Ken Dart and Chris Turnham--amazing artists:

As always, a pleasure to see my comic artist friends Mike Oeming and Taki Soma! (Sorry, didn't take a pic of their booth.) And David Mack...You gotta check out his awesome graphic novel series Kabuki.

I came across this print...which I loved. Long live Carl Sagan:

I posed with some Vulcans:

As for the vgame symphony...I loved hearing songs from Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Final Fantasy. (I was disappointed that they didn't play One-Winged Angel, though.) I was fortunate enough to attend the FF composer Nobuo Uematsu's lecture a while back, if you haven't seen it, here is the link. I love his music!

Here's an example of how CT sounds live:

  4. If I ever got the chance to go to Comicon I don't think I would have the self control to only be there for an hour.
