-Started a new picture book and a novel!

-Finished Halo 5, my seventh video game, and also my third novel SWORD!

-Had an unexpected epiphany that will shape the next chapter in my career.

-Wrapped up my work with Microsoft. It was a great experience working with a big company and franchise.

-I got a new exciting project that aligns with my vision for my career! Stay tuned for news in the new year!

SWORD - Holiday Recipe and Gift Ideas

Happy Holidays! I hope everyone is having a festive week!

Here are some SWORD themed holiday food and gift ideas! You know what grows in Avalon? Apples! In fact, the name Avalon even means apple. To party up Avalon style, try mixing in finely chopped apples and cinnamon powder into your favorite muffin recipe. Once you place the batter into muffin cups, top with more chopped apples. You can also top it with caramel or marshmallow for more flavor combos. The juiciness of the apples really complements the muffins.

Here are some Avalon Apple Muffins that I made for the SWORD release party:

Is your friend or family an Arthurian fan? Here are SWORD themed gift ideas:

If you missed HENGE's holiday post last year, it's here. Happy Holidays! I'll be back on the blog next week with presents.

Holiday Charity 2015

I hope everyone is having a fantastic holiday week! I'm enjoying my vacation: finally got a Christmas tree, went shopping, and saw the Nutcracker Burlesque!

Every Christmas week I give royalties earned from my books toward charity. Information below:

Sales from CLAN will go to Cancer Research Institute in memory of my grandmother.

Sales from Le Fay Series (HENGE and SWORD) will go to Born This Way Foundation, which focuses on empowering youth and inspiring bravery.

I am also donating a few paperbacks to Women's Prison Book Project. While I was writing SWORD I researched prison and learned how important books are to prisoners. I hope you will also consider donating!

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Honeymoon - Part 3: Athens and Paris

I'm very saddened by what happened to beautiful Paris this month. I couldn't stop thinking about it. The tragedy struck near where I stayed in Paris just several months ago and to imagine the terror... it made me horrified to think of what everyone went through. I'm wishing for love and peace worldwide. In Seattle our skyscrapers are decorated with lights to honor France.

"Love is the Key"

Today I thought I'd share some photos from Paris. I'm so glad I finally got to go there this year. Definitely one of the top cities I've wanted to visit.

On the way to France, we stopped by Athens for a day, which was definitely worth it to see the Acropolis.

We only got to spend two days in Paris on our way back to Seattle. Two days was certainly not enough. There's so much to do there. We went to the opera house, catacombs, Moulin Rouge, Notre Dame, Louvre, and Pont des Arts. The whole time I only ate meat, cheese, and bread. (By the way I had my health check up and blood work right after the trip and guess what? Super awesome health! I noticed the wines there did not give me the wine headache due to no chemicals. The Europeans have their food and drinks right, that's for sure.)

Our time in Paris was very busy as we tried to do as much as possible in the gorgeous city. It was inspiring to be surrounded by so much visual splendors. We also met some very warm people there. Some of my favorite memories are sitting at the bar to enjoy wonderful drinks and food while soaking the ambience.

Once we got on the plane to head back to Seattle I shed some tears because the trip was so great and it was overwhelming that it was over.

Thank you for being awesome, France. We love you.

News Week - 11/16/15

First review of SWORD is in! Check it out here.

"All the plot twists in this novel are enough to give me a heart attack. While I can't reveal them for obvious reasons, just know that this book will take you on an amazingly epic journey that will leave in a state of shock by just how freaking amazing it it."

SWORD book blitz is running this week with a giveaway (gift card and ebooks)! Hope you win something!

Peek at the Kindle version of SWORD:

In other news, I took a class run by Annie Pearson and learned about organizing my manuscript using MS Word tools. Super useful! You can control your manuscript on the first page of the Word doc if you learn to set it up. Also seems like a useful way to create a super outline. If you are interested in learning about it, check out her webpage where she posts the info.

SWORD - Release Day!

Yipee! SWORD is officially out. It debuted at #15 Arthurian bestseller and is listed as hot new release on amazon!

First non-spoiler review is in!

If you'd like to have the best reading experience, I recommend avoiding spoilers in reviews. It's a super pivotal point in Morgan le Fay's journey. HENGE was an introduction to get to this story that I've been wanted tell for a long time. I wrote this draft five years and am so thrilled to finally be able to share it.

This is the most fun manuscript I've worked on and certainly my favorite so far in the Le Fay Series. I sincerely hope you will enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed working on this.

As stated in the acknowledgment... THANK YOU GUYS!

Party on! SWORD inspired playlist:

Here are some of my personal notes on the songs:

Eternal -- One my favorite instrumental pieces. Sums up Sword perfectly.

Immigrant Song -- The opening to the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is gorgeous. I love love it. Dark imagery with water and fire certainly is inspire-worthy for this series.

Stole my Fame -- Heard this while writing Sword. Such a perfect Morgan & Merlin song.

Feel it in My Bones -- This song reminds me of when Morgan le Fay learns love.

Clubbed to Death -- I want this series to be epic, dramatic... like this song!

Castle of Chaythe -- Dark. Haunting. Totally got me in the mood to write some dark stuff for this book.

Dark Dark Heart -- Could be applied to most of my stories. What can I say?

Lotsa work! I got myself this lil reward:

If you've already begun reading, my advice: Keep calm and keep reading. Happy reading!

Sincerely Yours,

SWORD - Sneak Peek Part 2!

I found another sneak peek scene from SWORD! This is within the first 50 pages and features Morgan and Merlin. You can read the whole book one week from today!

As I walk away, adrenaline runs through me. My dress blazes behind me like fire as I march toward him. The crowd parts for me as if I’m electric.
I take a breath and focus on Merlin. He stands in the middle of a crowd and is talking to a Relic Keeper. Squeezing past people, I approach him. When he sees me he does a double take before settling on a questioning and wary look.
“Congratulations,” I say, extending my hand.
Everyone stares at us. Some begin to whisper amongst themselves. The Relic Keeper walks away. Merlin doesn’t seem to notice—he is too consumed with staring at my hand as if it’s a knife. Slowly, he takes it. I keep a tight grip so he can’t pull away.
“Thank you,” Merlin says, barely audible. “I’m overwhelmed.”
He tries to release his hand from my grasp.
I step closer to him and lower my voice. “Everyone is staring. This is humiliating for me. I didn’t see the invite so I didn’t know we were supposed to wear blue.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“I thought you’d like to know that I decided to take your advice.”
Merlin blinks in surprise before giving me the smallest smile of relief, understanding my meaning. “I’m glad.”
“So let’s say good-bye.” I step away, still holding his hand, and curtsy. “Please put on a show of peace. Dance with me. It’s not true what you said, about me not liking you.”
Merlin hesitates before nodding weakly. He’s shaky as he guides me into a dance. Everyone watches us with interest, especially Vivian as she continues to play her violin.
“Still uneasy?” I ask.
Merlin winces and then sighs. “You said all those nice things earlier, but your energy is aggressive. I feel your fire magic through your hand.”
My brow twitches. “So? Isn’t it what you do as well? Hide feelings under nice words?”
“You’re still angry.”
My dancing becomes more mechanical as frustration sets in. He sure knows how to ruin the amicable mood.

This is just a hint of their tumultuous rival-friend relationship... Get ready for more! Tomorrow I am posting the art preview, so please come back to visit again tomorrow! Xo

Le Fay Series - Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Last year I drew Morgan dressed as a sorceress. This year I am adding Merlin dressed as a wizard.

I've got a busy October getting SWORD ready so I'm simply wearing a wizard hat this Halloween to greet trick-or-treaters and I hope to watch scary movies during the night. Hope you guys have an awesome Halloween!

SWORD - Sneak Peek

SWORD will be out in 2 weeks on 11/10! If you'd like a review copy, I should have them ready next week. Just let me know.

I have to admit it was tricky to find a sample that contains no spoiler for both the audience who read Henge and who hasn't. The book starts with a major spoiler, starting with the first sentence!

Well I found this sample (which I believe is non-spoilery) within the first 15 pages of SWORD. I hope it gives you a taste:

When I glance at Lancelot, he is studying me like he thinks I’ve gone mad, and it occurs to me I probably have a dark expression over my face.
“Look,” Lancelot says, bowing his head slightly. “Before the final trial, I told you that I wanted you to not think of me as the High Knight behind closed doors. That maybe we could be friends. I’m not sure if what I thought at the time is possible, but for one minute, let me be an ordinary person interested in your well-being. You are too hard on yourself. You have a bright future, though you may not see it right now. see it.” He puts his hand on his chest to emphasize his conviction.
Seeing him friendlier makes me squirm—it’s somehow worse than when he’s being tough on me. I want to scream and run out the room and over the hills.
He walks closer to me and I’m afraid he’ll smell my sweat.
“You’re tortured to hear this,” he says as if he can see through me. “I don’t know what happened to you in the past and what you’re suffering from, but if you could just trust me, I’ll prove to you that you’ll find a fulfilling career in Camelot.”
Turning my head, I hold my thin gown closer against my chest, afraid that it’s not enough cover.
“Please,” I say. “I appreciate your words, but you don’t understand—”
There is a knock at the opened door. Father peers in.
“Everything okay?” he asks sharply.
He glances at me before eyeing Lancelot.
“Everything is fine, sir,” Lancelot replies and steps away from me. “Good day, Ms. Le Fay. Glad we have an understanding.”
I catch the questioning look Father gives Lancelot. For a second Lancelot looks insecure as he slumps his shoulders just a tiny bit. I realize then that Father intimidates Lancelot. Father was once a highly respected knight himself. Lancelot is still young after all, especially for the High Knight.
Lancelot gives me a curt nod as Father guides him out.
“Apologies for the intrusion, sir,” Lancelot says.
Father doesn’t look happy. “I understand your job. I once had to do similar tasks myself.”
As I hear their footsteps recede, I am left to face dread. I don’t know what ideas will spring from my mind to deal with this conundrum. But I know whatever course of action I choose to take will be my worst and best idea—terrible and unstoppable, like a forest fire. I know this but cannot do anything about it, just as a drowning person cannot help but try to stay afloat to breathe. This is my attempt to take a breath before sinking. To push past that strong current that keeps me in one place.
I take the statue of Astolat off my nightstand and hold on to her.
“Please… please,” I whisper to her. “Don’t let me…”
Don’t let me what?
What am I afraid of doing?
As my room darkens, the question haunts me.

Interested in the series? Read the first book HENGE here. And you can add SWORD to Goodreads here. SWORD will be out in a couple weeks on 11/10!

Honeymoon - Part Two: Santorini

Part two of honeymoon photos! This features our main honeymoon stop: Santorini, the moon-shaped island! When I saw the photos online of the white buildings, romantic sunset, photogenic setting, and azure ocean... I knew this was the perfect destination for us! And it was. The people of Anastasis, where we stayed, couldn't have been kinder. They set up special treats for us every night (sunset drinks, private candle lit spa just for us... and all for free). The people of Greece were against a financial crisis during our stay, yet the people were the most generous here than anywhere else I've been to in the world. Seriously sweet people with big hearts! I think you'll be able to glimpse their genuine kindness in every photo of the treats they prepared and the setting they created for us.

We experienced many wonderful adventures. My favorite was when we rented an ATV and drove around the island super fast, getting lost and dusty, yet having a lot of fun. I also enjoyed watching the sky turn dark every night while sitting in the jacuzzi. The sky had a special treat for us: Venus and Jupiter were aligning during our honeymoon week!

Dear people of Santorini, thank you for making our honeymoon wonderful!
